Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Hey everyone -
In case you didn't know, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss's b-day! So the kids and I had a great time celebrating his life and his collection of books. What a phenomenal children's book writer! Enjoy the pictures!

The kids had a blast with these color puzzles. They pieced together each puzzle which ended up spelling a color word. This was great for fine motor skills, color and letter recognition.

"Fried Green Egg" :) Simply tint tacky glue green, pour onto wax paper, put a green pom-pom in the middle and let dry for a couple of days. Super easy and fun!

Some of the classics we read this week - the kids especially loved "The Cat in the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham" :)

More fun with the color puzzles! We had one made for each color represented in Dr. Seuss's book "My Many Colored Days".

Thanks for reading - I hope you all have a great rest of your week and weekend!

Fun Teaching Tools

Hey there-
Here are some pictures of some of my favorite teaching tools at Monarch Kids Preschool. Enjoy!

Letter Muncher - This is probably one of the kid's favorite activities! I spread out the letter cards, and in a silly voice I ask for a certain letter to eat. Once the kids find that letter, they feed it to the muncher (there's actually a slit in the tennis ball!) and I make yummy eating sounds. They think it is SO funny!

We have "Calendar/Weather Time" each day at Monarch Kids. This is a great teaching tool for numbers, counting, days of the week, chronology, months, seasons, weather... We love it!

Here is our seasonal bulletin board. We'll be changing this soon to fit a Valentine's Day theme. So cute!

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

Birthdays and Groundhog Day!

Hey there!
This past week we celebrated 3 birthdays! And of course we celebrated Groundhog Day - one of Miss Kendall's favorite holidays! :) Enjoy the pictures!

Here's a sorting activity we did - sorted candles based on color groups.

Another sorting activity - sorted candles based on stripes or solids.

Literacy activity - matched up lowercase and uppercase letters.

A cute groundhog craft to celebrate a great holiday! :)

Here is one of the b-day boys playing with play-dough!

MLK Week

Hey everyone -
Here are some pictures from our week celebrating the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Enjoy!

Friendship Wreath - a super cool craft! The kids traced and cut out their hand prints from different colored construction paper and glued them onto a paper plate with a picture of MLK in the middle.

The kids decorated a picture of a dove - a symbol of peace.

Sorry - this one is turned on its side. But its a peace chain and each link has a different drawing on it based on something we learned from the week. For example, the orange link has a drawing of a bus on it from the Rosa Parks story.

Here the kids are posing in front of differently wrapped boxes. But the kids didn't know that each box has the same present inside - a sheet of red smiley face stickers. Lesson here...even though we all look different on the outside, we all are special and all are the same on the inside.

Transportation Week

Hey everyone -
Enjoy the photos from Transportation Week at Monarch Kids!

Cute and tasty transportation snacks called "Airplanes in the Sky!" :)

Here the kids are making their stoplight crafts.

Each of the kids made a "Name Train" - and they got to be creative with the decorative backgrounds. Many of them put in train tracks, mountains, birds flying in the sky...

Here are the books we read this week.

Stoplight craft - so fun!

Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for reading!
