My Body Week

Hey everyone -
Enjoy pictures from "My Body" Week at Monarch Kids!

Such a cute craft - a giant bandage! The kids painted brown paint all over bubble wrap then pressed brown paper over the top, which made the impression you see. Then they glued a strip of paper towel down the middle and trimmed the corners. Looks pretty realistic, huh?

The kids LOVED giving these babies a bath! They used washcloths, shampoo, lotion, towels - and I actually put brown paint smudges on the babies that they had to get off too! So much fun!

Here are the books we read last week. The kids really like the Magic School Bus book because the bus went on an adventure in one of the classmate's nose and throat - so disgusting but fun!

Thanks for reading everyone - have a great night!

Cool Tools Week!

Hey everyone -
Here are pictures from our Cool Tools Week. Enjoy!

The kids made fun toothpick/gumdrop structures. This was such a fun activity and kept the kids engaged for quite a while. They loved it!

More toothpick/gumdrop structures...

They built things like "robots", "stars" and "flowers" :)

Here are a couple boys playing with fun construction tools and a dump truck. We also practiced hammering with a play hammer, foam, and golf tees.

We made "Longer and Shorter" books - this helped them understand a basic measuring and building concept.

Thanks for reading - enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!

Thanksgiving Week

Hey everyone -
I hope you enjoy the pictures centered around our theme last week - Thanksgiving. We had a lot of fun!

The kids made Native American vests and headbands. Say cheese!

They made a "Mayflower" boat from their handprint. We added some other parts to their ship as well as water and a boat. So cute!

This was a great craft to help the kids recognize the sound the letter "T" makes. They colored a picture of a turkey, spread glue on it and then sprinkled some thyme on the turkey. It smelled great too!

The picture is a bit blurry but, we played a game of "Pin the tail feather on the turkey" :) They did a pretty good job!

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving holiday this week - take care!

Cooking and Food Week!

Hey everyone -
Here are some pictures from our fun week of cooking and food explorations. I hope you enjoy!

Here one of the girls is painting with crushed cranberries :) The kids crushed them with rolling pins and we put them in a blender to give them a good painting consistency - a unique painting experience for sure!

Here are the books we read this week. I especially loved "Stega Nona" and "Thundercake" - 2 great books! I recommend checking them out from your local library!

The kids also got to experiment with colored spaghetti and make their own creation on a paper plate. Also this week the kids practiced making letters with cooked and uncooked spaghetti (the cooked ones for the curves in some letters and the uncooked ones for the lines in letters). Fun and sticky!

This was my favorite craft this week! The kids made cakes and they did such a great job that they look almost real! But they're not :) We taped a jello box to a paper plate and then "frosted" them with a mixture of shaving cream and glue (tinted with food coloring). Then the kids added decorations with sprinkles and foam shapes. How fun!

Here the kids are painting their "cakes" - yummy!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Spiders and Bats Week

Hey everyone -
This week we explored spiders and bats - the kids really enjoyed this theme and even found some spiders outside during their play time! They got super excited about that and were very careful not to hurt them - that made this Nature-Lover very happy :) :)

Enjoy the pictures!

Here is one boy's "Harvest Moon". We dipped yarn strips into diluted glue and spread them all over a wax paper circle. Then we added a bat and some glitter. Super cute!

Here is a spider book that one of the kids made before it was put into book form. The pages say:
1. A spider has 8 legs.
2. It can also have 8 eyes.
3. It spins a web so it can catch
4. Some tasty juicy flies.

These are the books we read this week. "Stellaluna" is one of my favorite books! It not only is great for bat facts, but also to show that we can have friendships with those that aren't exactly like us. I love it!

Thanks for reading - have a great afternoon,

Autumn Week

Hey everyone -
This week we celebrated the autumn season. Check out the pics!

We went on a couple fall hikes and collected lots of natural objects from the ground that represent the fall. I was hoping we'd find more oak trees and acorns, but oh well...

Here are the books we read for the week!

This was a fun, easy and super cute craft!

Here is one of the kids doing the "Shades of Autumn" craft. You dilute fall color paints with water and then use straws or eyedroppers to drip the paint onto leaf-shaped paper towels. It was so cool!

Thanks as always for reading! Next week's theme..."Spiders and Bats!"

Take care,

Weather Week

Hey everyone -
This week was "Weather Week" at Monarch Kids. Enjoy the pictures!

We made several crafts about clouds, sunshine and rain. Here we have our "Rainy Cloud" - a 3D cloud that the kids painted and stuffed with newspaper. Next to it is the "Sparkling Sunshine" - just a fun exercise for the kids to decorate their sunshine however they please.

Here one of the kiddos is putting on the finishing touches to her "Rainstick" - a super fun craft!

Here are some more cloud and sunshine crafts - the sunshine one was especially fun. They loved using a cd in their craft and it was a great activity for them in patterning - yellow and orange circles.

One of the days, all of our math and literacy activities centered around a book called "The Wind Blew" by Pat Hutchins. In the story the wind blows something away from a different person until the very end when all the items come back down and fall on the people. So in the picture above, the kids had to sequence the story's events by putting the pictures in order from the first to be blown away to the last. They recalled the information really well!

Here are the books we read this week.

Coming up next week..."Pumpkin Week" and a field trip to a local pumpkin patch!

Thanks for reading - have a great weekend,
