Weather Week

Hey everyone -
This week was "Weather Week" at Monarch Kids. Enjoy the pictures!

We made several crafts about clouds, sunshine and rain. Here we have our "Rainy Cloud" - a 3D cloud that the kids painted and stuffed with newspaper. Next to it is the "Sparkling Sunshine" - just a fun exercise for the kids to decorate their sunshine however they please.

Here one of the kiddos is putting on the finishing touches to her "Rainstick" - a super fun craft!

Here are some more cloud and sunshine crafts - the sunshine one was especially fun. They loved using a cd in their craft and it was a great activity for them in patterning - yellow and orange circles.

One of the days, all of our math and literacy activities centered around a book called "The Wind Blew" by Pat Hutchins. In the story the wind blows something away from a different person until the very end when all the items come back down and fall on the people. So in the picture above, the kids had to sequence the story's events by putting the pictures in order from the first to be blown away to the last. They recalled the information really well!

Here are the books we read this week.

Coming up next week..."Pumpkin Week" and a field trip to a local pumpkin patch!

Thanks for reading - have a great weekend,

Colors and Shapes Week

Hey there -
Enjoy the photos from our week of learning about colors and shapes!

The kids each made a "Shape Book" that included a circle, triangle, rectangle, square and a star. They also made a yummy rainbow necklace from Fruit Loops - this was a favorite (hum...I wonder why? :)

These were the books we read this week.

Here are 2 of the kiddos showing off their yummy rainbow necklaces - this is a favorite photo of mine!

This is a game called "Where's Teddy?". In it I hid the bear under a colored shape and the kids had to locate it by naming the color and the shape. It was a great activity for shape and color identification!

The kids looked all around the room for objects that represented each color of the rainbow. Really fun and bright!

Thanks for reading - have a great weekend!

Apple Week

Hey there - We had a lot of fun learning about apples this week. Enjoy the photos!

Here are some of the crafts we did this week. Lots of painting, gluing and pasting!

We brought the apple orchard to Monarch Kids! I hid apples in the backyard and the kids went on an apple hunt - they loved it!

Our letter of the week was "A" - this activity helped the kids learn to identify the letter by sticking circles on each one.

Each kid received an envelope with all the letters of their name on apples. Then they used those to practice spelling their names. Fun!

Here are the books we read for the week. I really enjoyed each of them.

Next week...Shapes and Colors!

Sports Week

This week was Sports Week at Monarch Kids. We had a lot of fun exploring this theme through games, arts and crafts, books, and actually playing lots of sports!

One of their favorites games is called "What Time is it Mr. Referee?" In this game one person is at one end of the field (this is the referee) and the others are at the other end. The group yells out, "What time is it Mr. Referee?" and he/she responds with a certain time, like "It's 2:00". The kids then take 2 steps closer to the referee. They keep taking a certain number of steps towards the referee but whenever the referee says, "It's midnight!" then he/she turns around and runs after the other kids. They loved it! And we've altered this game many times to Mr. Dragon, Mr. Dinosaur, or whatever theme we're focused on. Super fun!

I posted pictures of different sports all over the walls. I would mention a sport or a piece of equipment and the kids would look around to find that sport. We had volleyball, basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer and biking. Fun!

Here are some of the kids from the week. They loved wearing their sports attire each day. This theme was such a blast!

This was one of the math activities we did this week. I had the kids help me order the baseballs from #1 to #10. We did a lot of sorting games with all of the sports balls we have here.

This is just a fun shot from the week. This girl is super creative! Each day she combines the outdoor toys and creates a new invention. So fun!

Thanks for reading - have a great weekend!

Fire Safety Week

Hi there -
This week was somewhat of a dud since I was sick most of the week :( But what days I was open we had a lot of fun with this week's theme - Fire Safety.

The pictures show a couple of crafts we did - a dalmatian toilet paper roll craft (so cute!) and a fire truck. The kids colored all of the pieces, I helped them cut them out, then they glued them together on the paper. I've noticed as a preschool teacher that kids LOVE to glue!! Its a constant lesson teaching them that a little goes a long way :)

We did some fun math game this week - focused on counting, patterns, color matching... The picture with the "Stop, Drop and Roll" cards helped the kids continue a pattern that had already been started. The colored fire station was an activity to help them with their color matching. And the one with the fire dog and the pompoms was the activity that helped them count how many "spots" (pompoms) to put on their dogs.

We also read some fun fire-themed books and focused on the letter "F" this week.

Coming up next week...Sports Week! Should be a blast!

Take care,
